The shop was originally called Saffetts but changed it's name to Mahjacks in 1990. The name is a tribute to Jack's Yemini friend, Mahmoud, who Jack worked with in Aden, where he went to supervise the baking of British-style bread for an oil refinery in 1953 to raise enough capital to buy a business of his own.
